What is a Overbed Tables?
When someone is confined to a hospital bed, keeping them healthy, happy and safe needs to be the number one priority. However, it is also necessary for them to have comfortable access to all of the things they may need while they are being cared for. A Overbed table allows patients to eat comfortably as well as have access to anything that may need within reach without having to rely on others.
The Tilt Top overbed table can tilt in either direction, depending on the specific needs of the patient. What makes it truly unique is that a tilt top overbed table allows someone lying flat in bed or barely have their head raised they can tilt the table to allow them to read. Over Bed Tables also allow for the height to be raised and lowered so the patient can adjust it to fit perfectly over their bed or their lap.
There is a model of overbed table that not only tilts but pivots as well. This feature makes it easy for the table to be positioned closer to the patient, whether they are actually in bed or even in a wheelchair. The pivot feature also makes the table especially easy to store when it is not in use. Once it is adjusted to the desired angle, it can lock in place to avoid accidental spills.
Some hospital tables are designed specifically to work with beds that are low to the ground and those are called low bed overbed table. They can be used with beds that have a clearance of only three and a half inches from the floor to the bed frame. If the patient does need the hospital table raised, it can be done with the slightest touch, making it perfect for patients who may not have a great deal of strength.
In some cases, it may be necessary to have a heavy duty overbed table, and there are some models that can support up to 500 pounds when they are in the locked position. These over bed tables are reinforced with a tubular steel welded frame that extends across the entire length of the table. Although it is incredibly sturdy, the swivel casters also make it very easy to maneuver.
