Patient Lift Benefits: Patient lifts are an indispensable part of safe patient transfers whether you're a home care provider or institutional nurse. Home care workers reduce the risk of personal injury and support the dignity of patients using patient lifts and slings off hospital beds. Using a hoyer type full electric patient lift or a manual patient lift allows care givers the ability to transfer patients using specialized patient slings for toileting, bathing or orthopedic needs. Patient Lifts - devices that move or reposition patients allowing caregivers or nurses to safely handle patients or transfer patients with dignity and without risk of injury to either the patient or the caregiver.
What kind of patient lift should I choose?
Patient lifts come in both manual and electric versions. A manual patient lift requires the caregiver to operate the lifter independently of managing the patient and can be more difficult that using an electronic lift where a caregiver can be more attentive to the patient at the same time. An electronic uses a hand controller allowing the patient to be lowered or raised by the lifter controller.
Most electric patient lifts do come with removable battery packs and manual emergency controls should power not be available. Manual lifts come with a pump handle to raise the patient with a hydraulic pump. Both will provide easy access to tubs, geriatric chairs, commodes and generally speaking need about 4.5" clearance under a bed for clearance.
What kind of patient sling do I need?
Patient slings come suited to different applications and materials. Padding and reinforcing can vary depending on use. A toilet sling or hygienic sling is designed specifically to allow for changing incontinence pads or toileting functions. Featuring a commode type opening or an open leg design your choice in style will depend on patient body control and use. Invacare nylon patient slings come with a brushed nylon finish for additional patient comfort.
